    SYMPTOMS OF ACUTE KIDNEY FAILURE

     

    What are the symptoms?

    As the kidneys begin to fail the following symptoms can begin develop:

    • Pale and sallow complexion
       
    • Fatigue
       
    • Shortness of breath
       
    • Body itch
       
    • Poor appetite
       
    • Hypotension
       
    • Anemia
       
    • BUN and Creatinin Serum Level increasing
       
    • Swelling of the face and legs
       
    • Reduction in urinary volume
       

    In the later stages of acute kidney failure there are:

    ¨ Uraemia

    ¨ Anorexia, nausea, vomiting (or occasionally diarrhoea)

    ¨ Muscular cramps, stiffness

    ¨ Signs of encephalopathy

     

    Progressing in extreme cases to :

     

    ª Depressed consciousness and grand mal convulsions

    ª  Skin bruising and gastrointestinal bleeding

    ª Uraemic haemorrhagic pericarditis
