    KIDNEY STONES TYPES

     

      

    Types of Kidney Stones:

    There are several types of stones. In most people, the underlying cause isn’t known. Different kinds of kidney stones form from different salt in the urine.
    Types include:

    1. Calcium Stones: These are the most common type of kidney stone. They made up from calcium oxalate. They usually a combination of calcium and oxalate, acompound that can be found in regular food. Foods high in oxalate include spinach, cacao, nuts, pepper and tea. People who have excess levels of vitamin D or someone who has an hyperactive parathyroid gland, people who have cancer, kidney disease, or sarcoidosis are more likely to develop calcium stones. Their Character are spiky or large and smooth.
    2. Uric Acid Stones : Excess amounts of uric acid which is a by-product of protein metabolism usually caused by eating a lot of meat. Conditions like gout and treatments such as chemotherapy can also increase the risk of getting uric acid stones. Their character are smooth, brown and soft.
    3. Cystine Stones : Happens if someone has a hereditary disorder called cystinuria which causes the kidneys to excrete excessive amounts of certain amino acids. This kind of stones are the rarest type, about 1 in 100 people who have kidney stones. Cystine stones tend to develop earlier in life than other kidney stones, usually between ages 10 and 30 years. Their character are yellow and crystalline.
    4. Struvite Stones : Mixture of magnesium, ammonium and phosphate are also known as infection stones as they only form in infected urine.They occur when there are too much ammonia in the urine.These stones are related to urinary tract infections (most often found in women), because the bacteria that cause these infections can generate ammonia, and can lead to loss of kidney function. Their character are usually large and shape like a horn.
