    KIDNEY STONES

     

      

    Risk Factors of Kidney Stones:

     Kidney stones actually can occur in adults of all age, but most prevalent in middle-aged men. Risk Factors include:

    ·        Inconsistent hydration, inadequate fluid intake, high alcohol intake, exposure to prolonged heat.

    ·        Dietary factors, like excessive intake of animal protein, oxalates, and vitamin C. Aside from diet, some other factors that can cause kidney stones are heredity, drugs, climate, and lifestyle factors.

    ·        Medical disorders, like renal tubular acidosis, fat malabsorption in inflammatory bowel disease, primary hyperparathyroidism, osteoporosis, metastatic cancer,vitamin D intoxication.

     

    Other risk factors include:

    ·        A family history of kidney stones

    ·        Taking certain medicines such as diuretics, antacids and thyroid medications

    ·        Being regularly dehydrated

    ·        Having poor mobility

    ·        Having a disease of the small intestine or a small intestinal bypass

    ·        Eating a diet high in protein

    ·        Having only one kidney, or an abnormally shaped kidney
